Whether you are camping on a hot summer night or a super cold evening above tree line, a sleeping bag liner can make your adventure so much more enjoyable. I’ve been testing out the Cocoon with Outlast and Coolmax Mummy Liner the past few months and it has been a blessing.
During the summer months, I went on a rafting trip in Utah and the temperatures started out above 80F at night and I am a hot sleeper. I didn’t want anything touching me to add warmth to my body, but I did want a layer in between me and my sleeping pad. While sleeping, the temperature dropped another 15-20 degrees and I needed a little warmth, but not a full on sleeping bag. One of the nice features in the Cocoon with Outlast and Coolmax Mummy Liner is that the Outlast temperature regulation is incorporated into this sleep sack. With this sleep sack, the outlast helps the liner regulate to your body temperature and the Coolmax can transfer some of your body heat outside the sleep sack, so you don’t sweat all night long.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, I like to use my mummy liner for sleeping in colder temperatures. A mummy liner allows you to add about 8 degrees F to your bag, so if you don’t want to go out and buy a new sleeping bag, but you know the temperatures are going to out do your sleeping bags temperature rating, it is always easy to add a liner to the mix. In the case that you heat up a little too much with the liner and your sleeping bag, the Outlast fabric will help regulate your body temperature, but is important to allow that heat to go somewhere, I suggested keeping your sleeping bag cracked open if you can.
If you are borrowing some ones sleeping bag and don’t want to pick up their funk they left behind from the last camping trip, using a sleep sack like the Cocoon Outlast mummy liner can come in handy as well. The Cocoon Outlast Mummy Liner has been super easy to stash in our camping gear as it packs down super small. This can also come in handy if you are traveling and using hostels or less than stellar hotels and motels.
Overall, we have been super happy with the Cocoon Outlast Mummy Liner and suggest taking a look at one if you’re in the market for a sleeping bag liner. For more info on the Cocoon Outlast and Coolmax Mummy Liner, visit www.rei.com or www.amazon.com/cocoon.
