When headed out for a hike or camping trip, there are a few things that I like to take with me. One of them is a multi-tool as you never know when it will come in handy. The other thing is my phone which often acts as my camera these days. While I like having a point and shoot camera, I don’t like to lug a tripod around with me much, even if it is a small one. When I first saw the Gerber Steady Tool, I thought I might just have an answer to my problem.
Camera Ready Gerber Steady Tool
One of my favorite features of the Gerber Steady Tool is the camera tripod function. For some reason, I feel that it is one of those simple yet amazing features. How it works: There are two plastic arms that spread apart to the knife base as a 3rd leg to create a steady platform for taking photos. There is another lever with a screw that acts as a tripod where you can attach a small point and shoot or you can attach a suction cup that attaches to an LCD screen on a camera or the glass of your phone. The tripod tool can angle 360 degrees so no matter what angle you want to shoot, the Gerber Steady Tool can make it happen. Simple, yet ingenious!

The tool itself is a combination of stainless steal and plastic. The plastic could be a turn-off to some people who want a multitool that will last for hundreds of years, but the plastic has not bothered me yet. I also feel by having part of the Gerber Steady Tool as plastic, you get to shave off some ounces. This way it’s not super heavy in your pocket. If you do find yourself wanting an all stainless steal multitool, I don’t think the Steady would be the best option for you.
