Light My Fire Swedish Fire Knife
What do you get when you combine fire and knives? The answer that is coming will surprise you a little bit. The answer is not a little boy going crazy, but it’s the Swedish Fire Knife. When I first received communication about this product, I got a little giddy and excited. The little boy in me came out and I was smiling from ear to ear.
How it works
The Light My Fire Swedish Fire Knife is a combination between a 3.9 inch knife blade with a high friction rubber gripped handle and a flint stick that can create a spark. In the handle is a place where the flint stick sits inside for storage. To get the flint stick out of the handle, you have to twist the end of the handle where the flint stick is attached. Once you get the flint stick out, the fun begins. To create the spark to start the fire, you use the back edge of the knife to create friction with the flint stick. While sliding the back edge of the knife down the flint stick, you get a spark that can light a camp fire, grill, etc.
What I liked
I liked that the Swedish Fire Knife has a safety case where you could store the knife. This way, you don’t accidentally slice your finger open or accidentally cut anything else. I also liked that the knife safety clip of the flint stick which keeps the two intact without losing one or the other. The grip of the knife is very grippy and I have no concern of the knife slipping out of my hand.
What I didn’t like
There are only two things that I didn’t like all that much about this knife and one of them can be changed. First, the item that can be changed, the knife and case color is turquoise. Sorry, but when I have a knife, I want it to look a little more outdoorsy or do I dare say manly? There are many other color options, so you can choose another color. The other thing I did not like was the handle on the flint stick. I felt that it was a little small and hard to hold on to at times. For future models, I would like to see a little bigger handle for the flint stick.
Overall
In the end, I like the knife/fire starter combo, but I also like having something that takes up a little less space. The knife and handle is somewhat lengthy and I would prefer a knife that is easier to fit in my pocket. This is my preference, but you will need to access what your needs and wants are.
