In a recent trip overseas, I was asked if I’d be interested in taking along some Kate’s Real Food Bars to travel with and as one who has a hard time passing up free food, I decided why not?! My wife and I were gone for 2 weeks in Europe and as some of you might know, food can sometimes be expensive, especially in Switzerland. One of the things we did to prevent us spending thousands of dollars on food was to pack up some snacks to take along with us so we wouldn’t be paying an arm and a leg for a candy bar. Some of snacks we took with us were some Kate’s Real Food Bars, 2 bars of each flavor.
One of the reasons I was interested in taking some of the Kate’s Real Food Bars with us is because they are generally high in calories(360 calories in the Tram Bar) and don’t take up a lot of room. When you are constantly on the go through walking, running, and hiking, you tend to burn up a lot of calories. All of the Kate’s Real Food Bars are super dense and can definitely curve your appetite. The ingredients for most bars include organic oats, honey, and almond butter. The bars start to differ by ingredients after that to differentiate the bars and appeal to different pallets.
Since these bars are very high in calories, I only suggest eating them if you’re doing an activity where you’re burning a lot of calories. This is not like your typical granola bar that you want to eat if you are sitting on the couch and looking for a snack. Activities that might be a good fit for these bars include mountain biking, long distance running, long hikes, backcountry and resort skiing/snowboarding, and other activities where you are burning lots of activities and have the pockets to store a bar.
From what I can see on the website, they have their largest distribution in Colorado and California, but are still available in a lot of other cities and states in the U.S. From what I understand they are making their way onto shelves in new stores everyday which is always good to see. As this is a smaller company and I have a soft spot in my heart for small business, I suggest asking your local store for the bars if you don’t see them on the shelves.
As for taste, all the bars taste like you are eating real food and not an over-processed energy bar. My favorite bar, the Tram Bar. Lots of yummy goodness! For more info, visit www.amazon.com/katesrealfood.
